I hope personal questions are ok?

My question for Ms.Macro is how did you become an executive editor? Was this something that you always wanted to do or did you want to be a writer first and still do? Is this something you went to college for or did you just work your way up in Avon?
Opps sorry for the long list LOL
Thanks for blogging with us!

Hi, I was wondering if you feel romantic suspense is starting to subdivide into sep. subgenres? Brockmann says she believes her writing is classfied as romantic adventure, and Tara Janzen and Amy Fetzer have the same feel, so would you say if I was pitching something along those lines, I'd call it a contemporary, an RS, or something altogether different? Thank you very much.

Thank you for taking our questions. I was wondering what you see as the future for chicklit? We keep hearing that it's dead and very hard to sell right now. Is Avon acquiring any new chicklit? We've also heard that even the chicklit tone is out of favor. Do you find this to be true? Or is Avon open to romance, romantic suspense or romantic adventure written with a chicklit tone?

Hi there

I am writing a manuscript at the moment and am worried that my heroine is a total alpha and the hero is ... not (the obstacles she faces come from his family, her ex, a law suit and a lot of farcical misunderstandings). Do you see a problem with a dynamic that is pretty much the opposite to the usual alpha male/plucky girl thang.

How hot is Avon Red?

Taking as given the usual "verbotens": no underage sex, no necrophilia, no rape, no bestiality...are there any scenarios you don't want to see, either because of personal distaste, because it doesn't fit the line, or simply because you feel it's cliche? How about language? Any words that are an automatic "no" or would you change the words you don't like later?

Is there a specific amount of the work that should be sex scenes? Some publishers will turn down a book that isn't sexyy enough, but I've read romances labeled "erotic" that, with the exception of slightly more graphic words, really had no more sex in them than a regular romance. I'm sure you don't want to get into specifics, because every story is different, but is there a general guideline?

Thank you so much!

Can Avon Reds be true erotica or must they be erotic romance?

Also, do you accept unsolicited novellas for this line?

Thanks.

Thank you Lucia for taking the time out from your busy schedule to blog with us here. And thank you Cathryn for providing the access to your wonderful editor...

How long is your submission process? And are you looking at dark paranormals?

Would a paranormal romance anthology (erotic, of course!) that shares a common theme be considered for Avon Red (three novellas, but a total word count of 90,000-95,000 words)?

Thank you to both Cathryn and Lucia!

I would be curious about the paranormal line and chick lit situation as well. Thanks for taking time to answer our questions.

Hi Cathryn! Hi Lucia!

Lucia, do you accept book proposals (3 chapters, synopsis, cover letter) or do you prefer the entire ms?

Thanks!

How should we submit?
* email query per the website?
* agented only per Writer's Market?
* query and syno to an aquiring editor?
* proposal (query/syno/3 chapters) to an aquiring editor?

The main character of my ms is raped in the early morning hours of her eighteenth birthday. My readers are able to work passed this because the assailant changes as the book moves on and issues are resolved. I mean, thirty years ago Luke raped Laura on General Hospital, and viewers survived! But publishers won't even consider reading this kind of story, and it truly has a happy ending! Why?

After hearing you speak at the RWA Conference in S.F., my question is how do I query you for romantic suspense?
Thank you,
