Hi all,
Just wanted to let you all know that the wonderful Lucia is still taking questions. This is the time to get the ins and outs of the business and a wonderful opportunity to ask an AVON editor a question. I'll be checking in daily and passing your questions or comments along to Lucia!!

Ms. Macro,

What kind of trends are you seeing in the historical market? I'd heard that the historical was dead. (Obviously, someone was a little premature in their assumption.) Are you looking for any particular time period? What if a book was e-published, but never print published. Would Avon be interested in seeing a book like that, if it fit all your other publishing guidelines? Thank you.

Dear Lucia Macro,

Hi! I have several questions, if I may?

Currently I'm working on an erotic romantic suspense book proposal...
Is Avon currently looking for this genre?

I'm published with Ellora's Cave and I'm wondering if you accept book proposals from published authors or do you prefer the full manuscript?

How long do you wish a synopsis to be? And do you wish the first three chapters or does one of these chapters have to be the end one?

Thanks a bunch!

Lucia's answer to Jordan's question

I don't know how many times over the years I've heard that the historical is dead. Whenever I hear this, I envision a room where our New York Times bestsellers are laughing at the idea. As for trends, I see a return to sweeping stories and dark, somewhat tortured heroes. England in the 1800s continues to be popular, but medievals are holding their own. Authors who combine paranormal with historical elements are doing well, but don't write paranormal unlessy ou love it. As for e-book originals, we'd certainly entertain them as submissions

Lucia's answers to Jan's question.

Jan--Currently I'm working on an erotic romantic suspense book proposal...
Is Avon currently looking for this genre?

Lucia--Well, I'd love it; I'm looking for erotica with a little more plot.

Jan--I'm published with Ellora's Cave and I'm wondering if you accept book proposals from published authors or do you prefer the full manuscript?

Lucia--We will certainly look at a proposal with chapters, and if we need to see the complete we'll just ask for it.

Jan--How long do you wish a synopsis to be? And do you wish the first three chapters or does one of these chapters have to be the end one?
Lucia--The synopsis should be as long as it needs to be. I'm not counting pages--but use your common sense. 8-15 pp should suffice.

And standard publishing practice has always been the first three chapters.

Maria's question:
Will the Avon Red books be available as ebooks?

Lucia--The answer is yes.

Maria--Will there be different levels of heat?

Lucia--The answer is yes, too.
